Submit Your Sitemap to Google Search Console
Submitting your sitemap in Google Search Console (GSC) helps Google crawl your food blog. While it can crawl your site without it, submitting it is considered best practice. In this post, I’m walking through how you can quickly and easily submit yours!
What is a sitemap?
A sitemap contains lists of your site’s pages, posts, categories, etc. It’s like a map of your site that helps Google navigate it.
You can use the Yoast SEO plugin (recommended) on your food blog’s WordPress site to automatically generate your XML sitemap.
You can find this in the Yoast plugin under Settings > Site features > APIs:
If you click View the XML sitemap, it should take you to something like https://yourdomain.com/sitemap_index.xml. This is what gets submitted in Google Search Console!
In your GSC account, navigate to Sitemaps (under Indexing).
Enter your sitemap and hit SUBMIT.
Here’s an example:
And that’s it! Sitemap submitted ✅

You can highlight and copy the entire list and paste it into a spreadsheet.
Then, you can add notes and organize the data however you like!
