    hey, I’m Kayla!

    It’s great to meet you!

I’m a science-nerd-turned-food-blogger 🤓 I launched my baking blog, Broken Oven Baking, in 2020 with little photography, recipe development, SEO, or blog experience. Within 2 years I accumulated the knowledge and skills to land paid brand partnerships and grow my blog to 50K monthly sessions.

Now while continuing to grow my blog, I help other food bloggers level up and achieve their dreams!

“Don’t use a template” is one of many pieces of ad “Don’t use a template” is one of many pieces of advice I’m ignoring, and my traffic’s still increasing.

The thing is, you’re not going to know how a blog post performs until you publish it…so why make the process harder for yourself by starting from scratch every time?

My template is thorough and I can easily tweak it as needed.

If I notice it isn’t performing how I want it to after I hit Publish, I’ll investigate and make changes to it!

There could be dozens of reasons why your posts aren’t performing well…but your template probably isn’t it.
One of my favorite reasons to engage with your aud One of my favorite reasons to engage with your audience: it gives you direction.

When you connect with the people showing up for you, you start to understand who they are & what they come to you for. That clarity makes the “what’s my brand, what do I post, where do I go next” questions so much less paralyzing.

And if brand partnerships are a goal of yours, engagement matters there too!

What’s something you learned about your audience by just talking to them? 💬
I often get asked how my Google traffic has grown I often get asked how my Google traffic has grown every year since starting my blog, especially with everything going on in search right now…

I don’t think there’s one magic answer, but here are the 3 things I believe made the biggest difference 👇

→ A consistent social media presence. I’ve been posting across platforms since 2020, and my growth & content quality on Instagram (especially back in the day) has led to my next big point…

→ Backlinks & brand mentions. A few years ago, a Good Morning America producer found me on IG and asked me to be a part of their cooking from home series! I’ve also gotten featured by accounts like Sur La Table and other big names in the industry. These mentions build authority that Google notices, & it’s the kind of trust signal you can’t fake with on-page SEO.

→ My site is mostly recipes, not informational content. People want a real, trusted source when they’re baking, so recipe queries feel a little safer from AI Overviews (at least for now!). I’ve also been intentional about creating the best user experience, encouraging & replying to comments, and demonstrating my EEAT!

If there’s one takeaway here, it’s that the stuff that compounds isn’t a quick SEO trick. Building trust & authority takes time & a lot of effort.

(& if building real authority instead of chasing every algorithm change sounds like the kind of work you want support with, that’s what Chris & I help with inside our group coaching program. DM me COACH if you’d like to hear more!)

If something isn’t working for me, I don’t accept it…I change the conditions until it does.
